THAMES IN FLOOD
LOWLYING AREAS SUBMERGED (British Official Wireless) (Received 26th January, 1.5 p.m.) RUGBY, 25th January. There was no rain to-day in the London area, but the Thames is still rising Flood waters are spreading in the Thames Valley and large lowlying areas are under water. The flow of the river at Teddington was at the rate of 8,700,000,000 gallons in 24 hours, being an increase of 1,200,000,000 gallons on yesterday’s figure. The average for January is 2,407,000,000, but in January last year the flow reached 9,000,000,000. That figure, however, is well below the totals of great floods in the past.
