“A DANGEROUS PRACTICE”

OVERTAKING VEHICLE ON AN INTERSECTION

FINES IMPOSED IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT

The dangerous practice of one vehicle overtaking another on an intersection was brought to the notice of the Magistrate, Mr T. E. Maunsell, to-day when he imposed fines in two cases. The first was that in which Yee Kim was charged with negligently driving a motor lorry out of Collingwood street into Bridge street. A plea of guilty was entered. Senior Sergeant C. Petersen said that defendant drove behind a milk float along Collingwood street and swung in front of it on the intersection. Defendant had said that he had thought that the float would turn in the same direction as he was going. A fine of £l, costs 13s was imposed.

The second case was that in which James Douglas Gyte was charged with overtaking another vehicle on the Trafalgar-Hardy street intersection. Traffic Inspector C. E. Parkinson, who laid the information, stressed that it was a most dangerous practice. A fine of £l, costs 12s was imposed. Melville Pahl, who drove a motor cycle in Waimea road, he not being the holder of a license, was fined 10s, costs 10s.

R. Benjamin, for driving a motor vehicle in Wakefield Quay, he not being the holder of a driver’s license, was ordered to pay 10s costs.
