WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION WINS
VALUE OF RANKING MATCHES

The value of ranking matches was stressed at the quarterly meeting of the Council of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, when a report covering the recent championships at Timaru was under discussion. Mr J. L. Mac Duff, Chairman of the. Management Committee, said the Council had some cause to congratulate its ranking committee on the success attending its efforts as shown at Timaru. The ranking system had enabled players to go forward to the championships properly tuned up as the result of the match play they had already received. Mr Mac Duff mentioned that a challenge had been issued to Canterbury by Wellington for the Wilding Shield and Kathleen Nunneley The matches would be played at Christchurch in the first week-end in February. He said he thought Wellington had a god chance of winning the \Vilding Shield.
