DIFFERENTIATION ALLEGED TE' KUITI COMPLAINT y: , .. .1 (United Press Association) ROTORUA, 21st December. The reported action of a woman school-medical officer, Dr. Deans, in her ‘treatment of Maori pupils attending?: w:as'discussed- by'the executive of the Federation at its first meeting held)) in Rotorua during the weekend. Te .kuiti delegates attended the meeting and reported that when the doctor, inspected the district high school,' she. had ordered Maori children to be separated from European, and had ordered the Maoris to be immersed in a large bath containing disinfectant.- No similar action had been ■taker)- Wit* l .regard to European children.
} • It was felt that this differentiation placed Native children in a humiliating position, and it was decided to write to the- Government expressing the opinion that methods which implied racial differentiation should not be employed by school medical officers. It was'stated that some days prior to the doctor’s visit a Native nurse had inspected the Native children at the school/ and was quite satisfied with their condition.
