AN UNUSUAL CASE
CONVERSION OF CAR __ • (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, 19th December. , An unusual story in connection with a charge of the conversion of a motorvehicle a'gainst Frank Mervyn Scott, aged 20, was told in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., to-day. Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey said that the youth had been employed on, a farm at Johnsonville, driving a truck carrying milk. He had been warned by the owner on a former occasion when whereas only 36 miles should have been covered the speedometer showed 83 miles. Yesterday afternoon he had the right to'drive into Wellington and back. When he did not arrive on time, the employer made inquiries, and found he had returned to Johnsonville at 4.45 p.m. The youth subsequently was found, and the truck was discovered between Wellington and Johnsonville, out of petrol. His explanation was that he had returned to town, and had cruised about there for a while before returning. The accused was placed on probation for three years, a condition being that during that period he should not drive a motor vehicle without the permission of the probation officer.
