BOWLING

NELSON CENTRE. RINKS FOR NOBLE-ADAMS SHIELD A meeting of the executive committee of the Nelson Bowling Centre was held last' evening, when Mr J. Hurrell, the president, occupied the chair. The following were also present: Messrs A. H. Crawley (Nelson), G. E. Piper (Maitai), E. S. Cresswell (Motueka), H. P. Forster (Mapua), and W. Carter (Murchison), and R. j W. Stiles (secretary). It was resolved that the application from the Marlborough Centre to obtain the services of the Wellington I bowl tester for the purpose of testing and altering bowls be acceded to. The'following rihks were handed in by'the selectors to play against Marlborough Centre for the Noble-Adams Shield on Saturday next: — Russell, J. Eden, Kingsland, W. J. S. Smith (s). G. Eden, R. Smith, Grooby, J. W. Ching (s). Simpson, Bowers, Delaney, Rowling (s). A. C. Rout, A. Stewart, Newton, Steele (s). White. Neale, St. John, W. Dee (s). Hurrell, Martyn, Stringer, McComish (s). H. Forster, La Frentz, Watson, Piper (s). A number of others had registered their names for the game, but the match is confined to seven rinks. It was decided to abandon the Boxing Day Centre tournament owing to insufficient interest by some of the clubs. The Maitai Club asked permission to hold a tournament on Boxing Day and the following day, and this was granted. For the Town v. Country match of eight rinks a side to be played on New Year’s Day on the Nelson green, Messrs Piper and Carter were appointed town selectors. A game will be played in the morning and the official game in the afternoon. The country clubs are to appoint their own selectors. Mr Hurrelfi Centre President, was appointed manager of the Adams Shield teams on Saturday. Rinks will arrange their own transport. It was stated that a request had been made for the Queensland bowlers to visit Nelson during their tour of New Zealand at the end of next month. In the event of the visit being arranged Mr Hurrell said he would be pleased to entertain the visitors and members of the Centre. A vote of thanks for his offer was accorded Mr Hurrell.
