NELSON 2nd XI DEFEAT GREYMOUTH BY INNINGS AND 132 RUNS ATKINS A CENTURY A cricket match was concluded yesterday on the Nelson College ground between the College second Ni and Lireymuiith Technical College, Nelson winning by an innings and 152 runs. Greymouth won the toss and elected lo bat, to the bowling of Waller and liiown. Davy and G. Carry opened but in Brown s third over Carry edged one that was going away and Overton took another smart catch to dismiss ii. Parry followed but after scoring 16 he snicked one Lo Peed behind the wickets oil' Overton's bowling. 2-49-16. Davy was batting soundly until Peed too kur.uther smart catch to dismiss him oil Bower's bowling. 3-58-26. Dunn and Urd compiled 1G each before they were bowled by Drown and Bowers, o--81-16. Walter was dismissed without scoring but Hewitt and Kennedy carried on till Hewitt was bowled by Davy after a forcing innings of 73. Hewitt s score contained 13 fours and a six. 8-327-73. Overton did not stay long and it was left to Kennedy and Douglas to bring the score to 403 with a last wicket stand of 71.

Greymouth went in. again next day, morning Davy and Orel opening. Old did not make many being clean bowled by Brown for four. 1-15-4. R. Parry then came in and Davy and Parry batted solidly until Davy was run out for 29 making the score 2-62-29. _G. Parry followed and after making eight he was bowled bv Atkins just before lunch. 3-84-8. 'Dunn and R. Parry resumed after lunch but a good ball from Walter knocked back Dunn's off stumps. 4-94-6. Walter s analysis was one for 11 off ten overs at this stage. Taylor was next but he was out lbw to Brown after making 14. 5-115.14. Knight was the next with a smart catch off Overton. Shortly afterwards R. Parry who had defied the howling for most’ of the morning wag caught by Brown in the long field off Bovvers. 7-138-57. Parry had batted soundly for his 57 taking no risks. Watson who was next, failed to open Ins score being bowled by Bowers. 8-138-0. The last two batsmen-with the aid of “extras” brought up the score to 170 when Greymouth’s innings closed after Kibble was bowled by Bowers for one, Shannon being six not out.
