THE WINEGLASSES PUZZLE
Two wineglasses of equal size are respectively half and one-third full of wine. They are filled with water and their contents are then mixed. Half o£ this mixture.is finally poured back into' one of the wineglasses.' What part of this will be wine, and what part will be water?
Solution to the Wineglasses Puzzle:
When equal wineglasses, a half and a third full of wine, are filled with water, and their contents arc mixed, and one wineglass is filled with the mixture and is 5-12ths wine and 7-12ths water. A GOOD MATCH TRICK Flace six matches on the table as in the following diagram: ._i A Q c j D The trick consists of lifting the square off the table with the two matches marked A and B. Nine people out of ten will try to lift it from the centre. That is impossible. The correct way of doing the trick is to place the matches A and B at C and D, press gently, and it will be found quite easy to lift the square.
