False rumours and misunderstandings is a Foreign Office statesman’s description of foreign press comments on the reported German-Japanese alliance. He added that these rumours would shortly be dispelled. Japan was anxious to reach an understanding with all powers. He pointed out that negotiations were proceeding at Nanking for a Sino-Japanese agreement to combat Communistic activities, but he had no knowledge of negotiations with other powers and explicitly denied an agreement between Japan and Italy.
