CONVENT OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION
SECOND BIRTHDAY Convent old girls and their friends were present at St. Mary’s Hall on 23rd November to celebrate the second birthday of the Association; Mrs U. R. L. West, president, assisted by the committee, received the guests. The Association colours, red, white and black struck the keynote of the decorations. Games, competitions and dancing added to the success of the evening. Warmly applauded items were contributed by members: Miss Sheila and Pat Barry, pianoforte duet, “Polanaise,” “Les Muscadines”; Mrs Du Flou, songs, “Blackbirds Song,” “Minuet,”; Miss K. Willis, recitations, “Little Irish Mother,” “The Same Old Story”; Miss B. Aydon, “Song of Songs,” “Beautiful Lady in Blue.” Father Cullen wished the Association a happy birthday and trusted this and other generations would carry on the traditions of the C.O.G.A. Mrs West in reply thanked Father Cullen for his good wishes and then asked Mrs Day, past president, to cut the cake which she had so generously presented, but Mrs. Day transferred the honour to Mrs I. M. Louis-* son, the oldest member—a singularly' fitting honour as Mrs Louisson was one of the foundation pupils when Catholic ladies taught in the schools prior to the arrival of the Sisters in Nelson. , ... ■
Supper was served from a buffet decorated with the Association’s colours and bowls of red roses and sweet peas. The centre piece was the cake iced with the C.O.G.A. mono-, gram and boasting two candles, lit by Mrs Louisson and Mrs Day. Dancing continued until midnight when “God Save the King” brought to a close a happy birthday.
