RAILWAY TRADESMEN
CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIATION PAYMENT OF WAGES ON WEDNESDAYS URGED (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. A conference of the Railway Tradesmen’s Association is preparing a list of remits to be the subject of representations to the Mihister and General Manager of Railways at interviews next week. It will advocate the payments of wages to be made on Wednesdays, to assise in diverting the present congested shopping activities from Friday nights and Saturday mornings, thereby enabling a much larger section of the community to enjoy the benefits of the five-day week with Saturday off. The conference recorded its sincere appreciation of the Government’s action, in introducing the 40-hour week, as one of the most progressive steps made in the industrial world.
