SALE OF ELECTRICITY
LOCAL CONTROL DEFENDED NEW ZEALAND’S CHARGES COMPARED (By Telegraph—Press Association) WANGANUI, This Day. Replying to criticism of local control of the sale of electricity in New Zealand, Mr F. Purnell, chairman of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, said to-day that since 1921 the output of Government stations had increased from 53,000,000 units to 793,000,000. ~ Electricity already reached more than 90 per cent, of the people’ while the charges were 50 per cent, less than Canada's and much less than England’s and other parts of the Empire. The figures were complete evidence of the outstanding success of local control. Power Board’s and supply authorities’ share of the industry was now represented by an outlay of £20,000,000.
