“TUTS ANNUAL 1936

Now in its tenth year of publication, “Tui’s Annual” is out this year in enlarged form, and its pages feature the original and varied work of New Zealand writers, artists and photographers. The only literary annual of its type now published in New Zealand, “Tui’s Annual” contains a bright assortment of stories, verse, sketches and pictures, all with New Zealand atmosphere. With a modern style of layout, in which photographs are used with particularly good effect, and with diversified reading matter for all tastes, this annual should have an even wider appeal this year. Of the eleven short stories eight are serious, and three in lighter vein, and the prizewinning effort is certainly one of the best by a New Zealand writer during recent years. The ■ verse has always been a strong feature, and this year is no exception to the rule.

The photographic section, printed on heavy art paper, includes some excellent photographs, of which the most outstanding is a picture of seagulls in flight, taken by Miss Thelma Kent, of Christchurch. Altogether this annual provides a well rounded assortment of New Zealand work.
