MR LOUIS MCDONALD

The death occurred recently at the residence of, his son, Mr F; J. McDonald, Kauri street, Wellington, of Mr Louis McDonald, aged 81 years. Born in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, the late Mr McDonald at an early age started his career on sailing ships, becoming familiar with many parts of the world before settling in New Zealand in 1885. He married Henrietta, daughter of John and Jane Roberts, one of the earliest pioneering families of the Nelson district. While in the employ of Mr John McLean he was associated ,with the construction of the Otira tunnel bridge, the Domain bridge, Picton, and the Wellington docks, later becoming clerk of works on the reclamation for the Union Steam Ship Company’s workshops at the Patent Slip. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Mrs E.. F. L. Dunne, Napier.
