AUCKLAND NUDE STATUE

STRONG COMMENT' BY CLERGYMAN (By Telegraph—Press Association) CARTERTON, 7th October. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, of Auckland, ex-president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, who is now visiting Carterton, on having his attention drawn to the discussion by the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations concerning the nude

statue, said: “I think the statue' is a disgusting sight and a r degenerate travesty upon Grecian athletic art. It is pitable to see the attitude of inoffensive sauvity assumed towards it by the Council of Christian Congregations. Surely the Church is in a tepid mood and is drawing the silken cord of a false peace over every great con-, viction and duty.”
