Jock, the thirteen-year-old white pony whom King George used to ride, is happy in retirement. He" has now been removed from Windsor to Sandringham,- accompanied by his pony friends, Wanda and Fluff, and Mr Charlie French, his old groom.Mr French has cared for Jock ever since he was brought to the Royal stables as a frisky youngster from the Highlands. Jock and his companions have been turned loose. They are living in a paddock at Sandringham opposite the statue of Persimmon, the famous nineteenth century racing winner. Jock has been pensioned off. Mr French has retired, too. The white pony has been unshod. He will never be groomed again. His hair will be allowed to grow. While Wanda and Fluff are housed at night in thatched roof boxes adjoining the paddock, Jock remains in the open.
