CONTROL OF EDUCATION
UNIFICATION OF AUTHORITIES
The unification of educational controlling authorities was the subject of a circular from the Auckland Grammar School Board which was read at the meeting of the Council of Governors of Nelson Colleges, last evening. The letter set forth opinions as to why it was considered that unification on the lines suggested by the Conference of Primary Education Boards would be unwise. It stated: “We feel that unless the post-pri-mary school boards of New Zealand give the matter of unification under the primary school boards .very careful consideration at an early date serious damage to the interests of post-primary school pupils may ...; result.” It was suggested that they request the Minister of Education to permit the holding of a conference of post-primary school boards in Wellington with a view to arriving at a united decision as to what steps should be taken with regard to unification.
The Council decided last evening that it was in favour of a conference being held at an early date.
