NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IN PRIVATE HOMES

LONDON, sth October. The “News-Chronicle” says that the Home Office will shortly distri- I bute millions of copies of a booklet intended to standardise air raid precautions in private homes. It con- ! tains advice on the subject of choos- | ing a refuge room from which gases | can be excluded and states that a | room 10 feet square will accommo- | date five people without ventilation for 12 hours. H It instructs householders to equip |l the refuges with candles, matches a |j hammer, nails, string, rags, scissors, § an electric torch, brown paper, air- S| tight food containers, tables, chairs, ta disinfectant, a wash-stand, a screen || for jprivacy, sanitary conveniences, drinking water, tinner foods, plates, cups, books, writing materials, a heavy dark curtain, blankets, mattresses, eiderdowns, a wireless set or gramaphone, a fire extinguisher or sand with a shovel.
