PRINCETON MILE
LOVELOCK DEFEATED BY KANSAS COLLEGE STUDENT (United Press Association—By Electrics Telegraph—Copyright) PRINCETOWN, 3rd October. Lovelock failed in probably his last assault on the world mile record today, for Archie San Romani, a young Kansas College student won the event handily, five yards ahead of the great New Zealand runner and 15 yards in front of Cunningham (U.S.A.). Lovelock was in the lead at half way and appeared to be a sure winner, but suddenly Romani spurted and gained a yard lead near the finish. Lovelock made an attempt at his famous final sprint, but Romani’s sprint was stronger. He gained four yards in the last 200. Romani’s time was 4mins 9secs.
