TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS

(To Tli'p Editor) t Sir, —For the size and number of trains I should think the Nelson Railway has had far too high a proportion of accidents, some of them unhappily fatal, i constantly use the road near the railway and have only once heard the train whistle, and halfway just after it had crossed the Haven road crossing. May I suggest that public opinion should bring pressure, to bear to make it compulsory for the train to whistle continuously within 100 yards of a cros-

sing? As regards the open road travel a speed of over 20 miles per hour is affected at times. In Greymouth and Westport both visible signals and loud clangers are used to make accidents impossible. May I suggest that a similar system be brought in here where lives are probably as valuable as they are on the West Coast? —I am, etc., A CAREFUL OBSERVER. Nelson, 2nd October. 'VARICOSE ULCERS of years’ standing successfully treated at home with Varex Method. Never fails to give permanent results. No resting. Free booklet from Varex Ltd., Box 1558 N, Wellington.
