YACHTING

AURORA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of the Aurora Yachting Club the president, Mr A. Gould, presided over a large attendance of members. The annual report stated: — The past year has been a most successful one from the racing point of view and the club’s finance is in a very satisfactory position, showing a credit balance of £24 2s 9d, due mainly to the activities of the social committee. The various races were keenly contested and the following is a list of the main prize-winners: Championship of the harbour, The Slipper, but later defaulted to the Valkyrie when challenged. Harris Trophies: A. Class, June; B class, Seamew. Cook Shield: Valkyrie. Glasgow Cup: Curlew. Aurora Cup: lanthe. Bisley Cup: Colleen. Savage Trophy: Colleen. Idle-along Class, gold medal, Tainui. Aggregate Champion: Colleen. Ladies’ Racing: The club is indebted to Mr J. Glasgow for introducing and donating a trophy for this class. This type of racing, which is nowwell established and gaining popularity, should be an added attraction during the coming season. The Glasgow Trophy: Rodney (Mrs K. Harris and Miss E. Potts), 1; Manunu (Miss Levien), 2. The North Trophy: Curlew (Miss Sharland), 1; Manunu (Miss Levien), 2. Club Badges: Sea Mew (Miss Weldon and Miss Lawn). The Idle-along class, introduced by the club in the 1933-34 season, has gained considerably in numbers. An outstanding feature of this year’s events was the representation of the club at the New Zealand championships held in Wellington. All things considered, the crew did very well to gain second place. Messrs Stewart, Williams and D. Hargreaves represented Nelson. The club hopes to have at least nine boats of this class racingnext season. The club has introduced the Taraunga class and is prepared to donate trophies providing four.or more of these boats will race. Social Activities: The club held anoliicr of its popular picnics at Haulashore Island during the season, and judging by the number of people who braved the elements, this outing was much appreciated by the general public. In conclusion, the committee wish to (hank all members for their cooperation and support, and the “Evening Mail” for publishing club notes.
