SUM OF £BO,OOO
SAID TO BE INVOLVED IN CASE A SHAREBROKER CHARGED (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The sum of £BO,OOO was said to be involved when Osmond Arthur Bridgewater, city sharebroker, appeared before Mr Levvey, S.M., in Court this morning charged with share hawking. Bridgewater, according to the charge, had during the past three years, namely, on. Ist November, 1935, at Oamaru, gone from house to house offering shares in the Australasian Investment Corporation Ltd., a company incorporated in New Zealand to certain persons, namely, debenture holders in Investment Executive Trust Ltd. The information was private one, laid under the Companies Act, 1933. It was agreed to remand Bridgewater till 15th October. Substantial bail was asked for by Mr Young, counsel for the prosecution. “The evidence will be that no less than £BO,OOO is involved,” he said. “Other prosecutions depend on the result of this hearing.” “That is sheer exaggeration,” complained Mr Lee, counsel for accused. The Magistrate fixed bail at £SOO, with one surety of £SOO, and ordered Bridgewater to report daily to the,, police.
