TAXING BILLS

RECEPTION BY LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (United Press Association' WELLINGTON, This Day. Thp Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill and the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill were received by the Legislative Council from the House of Representatives yesterday and were read a first time. The Leader of the Council, the Hon. M. Fagan, said the practice during the last six years had been to invite the Council to pass taxing Bills at the one sitting. In view of the radical changes proposed in the Bills this year, however, he desired to give members of the Council the opportunity of studying them in the week-end. Therefore he would suggest that the second reading and succeeding stages be taken on Tuesday. On his motion the Council adjourned until 2.30 p.m. next Tuesday.
