(By Telegraph- -Press Association)

WANGANUI, This Day.

During the hearing of a civil claim before Mr Salmon, S.M., between Indians employed in the Wanganui district there were allegations of a frame-up against plaintiff, whereby he was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment in August, 1935. Plaintiff, Bachint Singh, claimed £l2 8s 4d from Nand Singh, alleged to be money lent and advances with which to buy articles for defendant and his wife. ” "

Various witnesses testified as to attending a meeting at Kauangaroa, at which defendant stated that he had sent plaintiff to gaol for 18 months and had got his money and clothing as well. One witness stated that defendant’s wife admitted to him that what she had said about plaintiff was untrue and she was very sorry.

Amar Singh, chairman of an Indian Association meeting at Kauangaroa said also that he had heard the admission by defendant and replied, “shame.” Fie told defendant that if that were so he would petition the Minister of Justice for plaintiff’s release and he did so. The case is proceeding.
