COVENT OLD GIRL?’ ASSOCIATION
MOST SUCCESSFUL DANCE A very large gathering assembled in St. Mary’s Hall on Wednesday night for the Convent Old Girls’ Association’s dance. The hall which was decorated in the Association’s colours, red, white and black looked very bright and cheery and the stage was tastefully decorated with beautiful palms and ferns loaned by one of the Association’s members. A well varied programme of old time and novelty dances was interspersed with various novelty dances, the Chinese waltz particularly causing much amusement. Bright and lively music was supplied by the Rhythm Dance Band, whilst extras were played by Miss Costello and were very well received. The duties of master of ceremonies were very ably carried out by Mr Noel McBride.
During the evening His Grace Archbishop O’Shea, who is visiting Nelson, visited the dance and was welcomed by the president, Mrs G. A. Day and her committee.
Shortly after midnight numerous brightly-coloured streamers were distributed amongst the dancers, and much fun was caused when they became- entangled in them. Tile committee, Mcsdames Day, West, Morgan, 'Sowman, Misses Barry, Armstrong, Aydon, and Mcßride, extend their grateful thanks to all those who helped towards the successful function, as a result of which a considerable sum will be handed over to the sisters for their Orphanage Fund. The Convent Old Girls’ ' Association is unique, ft being the only one of its kind in New Zealand. Any girl who has attended a convent school in any part of the world is eligible for membership,. and thus their are members from England, Iceland,'Australia, and all parts of New Zealand.
