PRETTY NOTION
TREES TO COMMEMORATE CORONATION (By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent! LONDON, 13th August. The Men of the Trees, the romantically named society whose aim is the scientific reafforestation of England, are associating themselves very prettily with the Coronation plans. Their attractive proposal is that, in commemoration of the crov/ning of King Edward the Eighth, groups of nine trees should be planted all over the Kingdom at suitable spots, as close together as possible. .There is historic, symbolism in the number nine. The centre tree of each group stands for King Edward the Eighth, and those surrounding it for his royal Edwardian predecessors. If local authorities take this. scheme up enthusiastically, and get children to do the planting, the Men of the Trees think that, at no great cost to anybody in particular, the Coronation year will be celebrated in the best way imaginable. From end to end of this island we should have a fine green belt as picturesque memento of a notable event in history. The idea will certainly appeal to the King himself.
