The appointment is announced of Mr Frank C. J. Temm, of the Railways Department, as private secretary to Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary, who is to control the Government’s housing scheme. Mr Temm has been clerk in charge of outward freights at Auckland since 1934, and in that position has become well known to the commercial firms of the city. Joining the Department in 1907, he was appointed stationmaster at Taupiri in 1918, and at Maurigaturoto in 1920. In 1928 he was appointed train control officer in the office of the district traffic manager at Auckland. Taking an active interest in service matters, Mr Temm was chairman of the Auckland branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute from 1931 to 1933, and at present is chairman of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Public Administration.

Archbishop O’Shea is at present visiting Nelson. His Grace administered the sacrament of confirmation at Motueka yesterday morning and at St. Mary’s, Nelson, in the evening.

Dr. C. G. Hilliard, an American surgeon en route to Australia, will spend a couple of weeks in New Zealand on his way home again, when he hopes to meet a number of surgeons in both Islands, states a Press Association telegram from Wellington received to-day.
