FINE AND COOL
The forecast is for fine and cool weather, with sharp inland frosts. After a beautiful sunny morning the weather on Saturday took a turn for the worse, and the afternoon was dull and overcast with cool winds alternating from the south-east and southwest, culminating in rain in the evening. Further showers fell during the night, totalling 41 inches up to 9 a.m., and heavy rain continued at intervals during the day, amounting to .66 inches, bringing the total for the month to date to 1.40 inches. The temperature fell during Sunday night but the barometer rose, with a . consequent improvement in the weather and to-day was bright and sunny, with an almost cloudless sky. There was a light but cool southerly breeze. There were 7 hours 25 minutes of sunshine on Saturday, but Sunday was completely dull. The barometer this morning was 29.67, as compared with 29.38 yesterday. The Government Research orchard recorded .37 inches of rain on Saturday night and .51 inches on Sunday. Cooler but fine weather prevailed in the Dominion to-day after fairly general rain yesterday.
