JAPANESE ULTIMATUM
TARIFF WAR WITH AUSTRALIA REPLY TO BE DRAFTED (United Prpss Association —Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright) CANBERRA, This Day. A special Cabinet meeting is being held to-morrow to draft a reply to the Japanese trade ultimatum. TURNING TO SOUTH AFRICA TRADE AGREEMENT WANTED TOKIO, ,20th June. The South African Trade Commissioner, Mr Brenan, had a conference at Osaka with 100 businessmen, at‘ which it was affirmed that there should be a Japanese-African trade agreement with ah African commissioner stationed at Osaka. It was also agreed to import iron and other ores and hides from Africa. Mr Brenan hoped wool purchases would be permanent. He indicated that the wool production would be increased to meet the Japanese demands. DUTY REDUCED ON JAPANESE GOODS (Received 22nd June, 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, 21st June. The Japanese consul at Capetown reports substantial reductions of duty on numerous Japanese goods, which business men here anticipate will enlarge mutual trade.
