MINING LEGISLATION
AMENDMENTS TO BE MADE MINISTER WANTS SUGGESTIONS 'By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, 20th June “It is my keen desire to have on the Statute Book the most up-to-date mining legislation in thte world, and I believe the procedure I am adopting will enable me to appreciate the practical application of suggested amendments,” said the Minister for Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, when speaking of legislation which he proposes to bring down next session to amend the existing mining laws. He is seeking the co-operation of both miners and owners in the drafting of the amendments. “I have sent an appeal to coal owners’ federations and to mine workers* federations notifying them that I propose bringing down the Coal. Mines Amendment Bill next session,” said the Minister, “and I am asking them for any amendments they might care to suggest. “A conference of inspectors of mines has already gone through the Coal Mines Act, and the Mining Act, and has suggested certain amendments to bring the legislation up to date. Goldmine owners and workers have also been advised of the coming legislation, and have been asked for amendments. “When the parties concerned have discussed the acts and suggested any amendments, I propose to call a conference to investigate the suggestions before they are embodied in the legislation,” concluded the Ministre.
