SATURDAY’S MATCHES SATURDAY’S MATCHES RESULTS AT A GLANCE Senior: Celtic 1, Athletic 1. Thistle 6, Y.M.C.A. 3. Schools’ Senior: Hampden St. 6, Auckland Point 0. Central 2, Tahuna 0. Bantams: Tahuna 1, Centi-al 0. Auckland Point 4, Hampden St. 0. The Association football championship matches were continued at Victory Square on Saturday in a cold, southerly breeze. The Price Charity Cup semi-final between Celtic and Athletic resulted in a draw, and as a result the match will be re-played at Tahuna on the King’s Birthday. Thistle were too good for Y.M.C.A., defeating them by a 3 point margin in a fast, exciting game. ATHLETIC AND CELTIC DRAW The Price Charity Cup semi-final match between Athletic and Celtic resulted in a draw, each team scoring one goal. Through good combined play was rare, there were some creditable individual efforts and' the score was a good indication of the merits of the respective teams. The teams were as follows: —

Celtic: Rae, Dore, Coxhill, R. Twort, Mackay, Win, V. Twort, McGinty, Hurst, and Campbell. Athletic: Smith, Mansell, McKellar, McKay, Bunster, Heath, Beveridge, Strange, Richards, May and Patterson. Athletic kicked off with the wind, Beveridge and McKellar carrying the ball to Celtic’s circle, but Celtic retaliated strongly. Heath put in a tricky run, but was penalised when in a good position. Beveridge received and transferred to Heath, to McKellar, who shot wide. Soon after May put in a shot which was carried by the wind to the. goal mouth, but Rae cleared smartly. Play was very even for some time, neither side holding the advantage, until McGinty was prominent, instigating several Celtic attacks with Hurst’s assistance. Athletic, however, were always successful in diverting the ball just when a goal by their opponents seemed certain. The first score came when Beveridge put in a determined run and centred well across the field to Patterson, who shot just beneath the crossbar. Athletic 1, Celtic 0. There was an exciting moment when play was carried to Athletic’s goal mouth, and several Celtic forwards shot in turn. None were successful, however, the ball being eventually kicked behind. After a period of midfield play, in which Celtic were trying hard to equalise, the ball was brought to Athletic’s circle by McGinty and Hurst. Patterson received and caught Rae unawares with a good shot. Celtic 1, Athletic 1. The half-time whistle blew soon after Heath had put in a good run for Athletic. On resumption both teams took a turn at attack and play eventually settled down in midfield. There was much kicking, dribbling and heading, though neither team seemed to be able to penetrate.- McGinty shot from well out, but the goalie was sure. Celtic were now dominating play and for a long period held Athletic at their own end of the field. At length. Athletic took a turn at attacking and Richards was prominent in a movement which went the length of the field. Athletic were now picking up somewhat, and made several assaults on their opponents’ line. Heath shot from close up, but the ball rose, going over the crossbar. Patterson, Beveridge, and Mansell were playing well for Athletic at this stage, while McGinty and Hurst were the best of an even lot for Celtic. Receiving the ball near the touch line, Mackay centred to Smith, who put in a hard drive, which went wide. Later R. Twort sent a good shot over the crossbar. Until the final whistle, though each team was trying hard for the winning point, there was no further goal, the game ending with the score: Celtic J, Athletic l.« Mr J. Guy was the referee.
