STRIKES IN BELGIUM EFFORTS of foreign AGITATORS 200,000 WORKERS NOW OUT (United Press Association—By Electric l’elegra ph—Copyrigh tj (Received 20th June, 9.3 oa.m.) BRUSSELS, 19th June. Despite the Venders strike leaders counselling a mass meeting to accept the principle of a tentative agreement the position gradually became worse under the efforts of foreign agitators. Attempts to bring out tramwavmen in the capital failed, hut the ranks of the strikers have steadily increased at Liege and Verviers. The Ministry of Labour estimated there were 350,000 strikers last night, including coalminers, steelworkers, bakers, and building workers. The morning’s estimate is- that 200,000 are on strike, -but Brussels is net seriously involved. Strikers late at night barricaded streets in the outer suburbs. The police charged repeatedly, drove off the mob and demolished the barricades. SEMEN ATMARSEILLES GENERAL STRIKE ORDERED (Received 20th June. 9.50 a.m.) PARIS, 19th June.
The Seamen’s Union called a general strike in Marseilles and ordered seamen to take possession of ships if their claims were not accepted by Monday.
