TEST TRIAL
NOT MUCH TO ASSIST SELECTORS ALLEN TO CAPTAIN TEAM (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 17th June, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, 16th June. Critics agree that the test trial ending in an honourable, but somewhat barren draw, did not reveal much to assist the selectors. To-day’s highlight was Turnbull’s quick footed, impressive innings. Allen, although not conspicuous in his batting and bowling, revealed sound generalship and his selection has been announced for the captaincy in the first test against India. His performance therein will undoubtedly influence his chances of captaincy for the Australian tour.
