JUNIOR RUGBY FOOTBALL (From Our Own Correspondent) j j The Rugby match Upper Moutere v. Ngatimoti juniors at Ngatimoti resulted in last year’s champions going under to Upper Moutere, the score being 15 to 8, two tries one converted, one field goal, and one penalty to two tries one converted. The game was hard, fast and even, and was played ‘ in the best of sporting spirit with the Moutere forwards winning the day. ' The first score came from an ..infringement by Ngatimoti, G. Thompson kicking a penalty with a good kick. Soon after Ngatimoti opened their score with a well-deserved try by T. Canton, S. Beatson converting. 5-3. Even play followed and just before half-time T. Price scored for Moutere. G. Thompson with a magnificent kick from the side line converted, the score then, being 8-5 in favour, of Moutere. The- second half opened at a fast pace, both teams attacking in turn. Then from a scrum at half-way L. Slatter secured and. raced over for a try, G. Thompson failing to convert. Moutere 11, Ngatimoti 5. Ngatimoti then set up a hot attack and by fast following up T. Crawford scored for Ngatimoti. S. Beatson with a good kick failed to .convert, the ball hitting the upright. Ngatimoti 8 to 11. Moutere immediately attacked and from a melee in front of Ngatimoti’s goal the ball came out to A. Lusty, the Moutere half, who potted a good field goal making the score Moutere 15, Ngatimoti 8. Even play followed to the end. Mr McCormick ably controlled the game. , , , For Ngatimoti T. Canton at second five-eighth was outstanding, but is inclined to hang on- a bit too long, and T. Crawford and D. Bint were the pick of the forwards. , ■ - • For Moutere G. Thompson at fullback played a good sound game, his splendid kicking being a feature of the game, while in the forwards J. Sigglekow was outstanding. The forwards all worked well. A. Lusty at half-back for Moutere also played well, opening up the play to his backs and his tackling was deadly.
