WOMEN’S DIVISION
FARMERS’ UNION new branch at waimea west The monthly meeting of the newlyformed Waimea West branch ot the Women's Division was held in the \\mmca West School. Some inconvenience was caused by the fact that the meeting could not be held until after school hours, but we have got over this diilieultv through the generosity of Mr A. T Palmer, who is allowing us the use of his building, The Chapel. The most important business on hand was arranging a function to raise funds for the JTunkct and Rest Rooms in the City. A dance was decided upon to be held at an early date. Mcsdames Sinclair, Kcmpthornc and S. O’Hara were hostesses for the afternoon. They provided a delicious tea and brought out from Nelson, Mrs MoncriclT, who gave us a wonderful demonstration of her knowledge of wool from the sheep’s back to the finished garments. We all feel very much indebted to Mrs Moncricff and hope some time in the near future she will visit us again. Our next meeting will be on 4th June. RICHMOND BRANCH TWO INTERESTING ADDRESSES The last two monthly meetings of the Richmond branch of the W.D.F.U. have been well attended, over forty members being present on each occasion. At the April meeting Mrs Woods presided and Mr W. Lock gave a very instructive talk oil “Chairmanship.” The competition, “three carrots,” was judged by Mcsdames Hart and 0. Sutton, Mcsdames H. McDonald, Wallace and Rest being placed first, second and third respectively. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. At the May meeting, when Mrs Woods presided, three new members were enrolled. It was proposed that Miss Robson represent the branch at the conference to be held in Wellington next month.
The roll call, “My pet aversion,” brought forth many distasteful duties. The competition, “A chrysanthemum.” was judged by Mesdames Poole and Critchley and resulted as follows: Mrs Troup 1, Mrs Wallace 2, Mrs R. Hart 3.
After afternoon tea Mrs Long gave a most interesting talk on her early life in Africa Mrs Hockey moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Long, after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
