THE PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
(To the Editor) Sir, —I desire to endorse the letters of “Progress” in this evening s “Mail, also “Nelsonian” previously, objecting to the Nelson City Council agreeing to what I understand is the request of the Public Trust to be allowed to erect a single storey building in Hardy street. If the proposal is to build to the footpath line, of the boundary, then in loyalty to the bylaw and justice to others whom they have compelled to honour the bylaw, the request of the Public Trust should be refused by the Council. If they desire to erect a- one storey building there would be no objection to put the building back 30 to 36 feet from the footpath. It is to be hoped that the. Council will take a- firm stand against any infringement of the bylaw. Anyhow this request of the Public Trust is creating interest among other owners who contemplate building, and if the Council allows the Trust Building to he erected as desired, they cannot refuse private owners. ]t is to bo hoped that a division will lie called lor when being voted upon in the Council meeting, should a motion be put in favour of the request of the Public Trust. Nelson is entitled to a fine two storey building on the Public Trust section, not inferior to Blenheim, Whang; trei and other places.—l am, etc., TOE THE MARK. Nelson, 20th May.
