Miss Newell, who is 24 years of age, is the Derbyshire champion and is England’s youngest justice of the peace. The semi-finals resulted: Miss Newell defeated Miss Gourlay 3 and 2, and Miss Barton defeated Miss Garnham 5 and 4.
