SCOUT RALLY
NEXT SATURDAY’S FIXTURE
LARGE GATHERING AT BOTANICAL RESERVE
On Saturday next the Scout and Cub sections of tlie Nelson Scout movement are holding a rally from which, it is hoped, an annual event will take root. This rally is to take the form of various inter-troop competitions, such as: Knot tying, relays, First Aid competitions, foot races, etc. There will also be events of a more demonstrative nature; Gymnastic display by the College Troop, and bridge building by the Rangatira Troop. The Cub section will be well represented in the ever-popular “Jungle dances. To t hose who have read Kipling s “Jungle” books, these dances have a very definite interest. Of course there wilt be other Cub events such as chariot and foot races. The proceedings will commence at 2.30 p.m. with a procession from the Church Steps to the Botannical Reserve, headed by tile Regimental Band. The District Commissioner, Dr. D* W. S. Johnstone, will inspect the Troops on their arrival, at the Reserve. At 4.30 p.m. the day s events will be brought to a close with a “March Past,” followed by a “wild Cub rush,” and a more sedate march by the Scouts.
During tlie afternoon tea will be served by the Rangers at a small charge. A stall will also be available to those desiring drinks, ices and chocolates. This rally is being organised and run by the Scoutmasters backed up by their committees and the proceeds are in aid of General H.Q’s. funds. Those funds are handled by a committee of keenlyinterested men, and are spent on the furtherance of scouting in Nelson. It is anticipated that about 10 Scout Troops and 8 Cub Packs will be represented at the gathering and that between 200 and 300 boys will be on parade. Much lias already been done by the Scoulcrs and their committees and much remains to be done. It is hoped that their efforts will be well appreciated by a large gathering of parents and others interested in this great movement which has done so much in the past for our youth, and is capable of a good deal more of support and encouragement.
