NELSON TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

THE MARCH MEETING “FOUNDING OF PLUNKET ' SOCIETY” At the March meeting of the Nelson Townswomen’s Guild, held at Marsdcn House, the president (Mrs G. Page) presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. It is pleasing to note that the guild is growing steadily, 12 new members being enrolled. As the first annual meeting of the guild takes place in April nominations were taken for officers and committee for the new year. Mrs Lusty gave a very thorough demonstration of the art of cutting out and making up of frocks and also very kindly offered her services to the members attending the dress-making class. Mrs Lusty was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks.

Afternoon tea served by the hostesses Mesdames Smallbone, W. 11. Simpson, Pomeroy, Spence, Lusty, Adams, and N. AYatson, was very much enjoyed, as was the social half hour which followed.

Two elocutionary items by Mrs West were much appreciated. A most interesting address on “The Foundation of the Phinket Society” was given by Mrs W. Lock. The speaker, who lias the work of this society very much at heart impressed members with the facts and figures brought under their notice and' it is hoped that Mrs Lock will further her talk at some later date. A hearty round •of applause was given Mrs Lock at the conclusion of her address. There were two competitions for the month, and these were kindly judged by Mesdames Blanch and Martin. The results were as follows: Apricot jam: Mrs T. Henderson, 1; Mrs Cliing, 2; Mrs Lane, 3. Sweets: Mrs Lane, I. Mrs W. Stewart and Miss Fleming had quite a busy afternoon at tho sales table, Mrs L. Brown’s gift helping to swell the funds. It is hoped that there will he a full muster of members for the annual meeting in April,; which owing to the children’s sports and" Easter holidays, will be held on 2 net April, the first Thursday, instead of the second" Friday.
