MILDER CONDITIONS EXPECTED Fine weather Becoming milder was forecast from Wellington at noon today. The winds will probably be light to moderate and variable, later tending northerly and freshening in the Strait,' .An anti-cyclone is moving on to norr them New Zealand, but pressure has fallen considerably over south-eastern Australia. In; common with most places in New Zealand Nelson has been experiencing fine, cold weather, with a strong, gusty wind. This piercing Waimea wind made its presence felt throughout yesterday and last night, but died down in the early morning and dav broke overcast and threatening. A trace of rain fell, but later in the morning the sun shone out, and the day was a repetition of yesterday. The minimum temperature recorded during the night was 33.9 degrees. The barometer has risen, reading 29.91 ins. at 9.30 o’clock this morning, as against 29.65 ins. yesterday. The bright sunshine yesterday amounted to 9 hours 50 minutes. The wind at the Government Research Orchard this morning was W.S.W., and the sky cloudy. A strong and squally north-west wind prevailed in Wellington yesterday, the weather being fine. Other places experienced similar condition, a fresh south-westerly blowing in Auckland. In Christchurch it was fine with a westerly wind. Westport was the- only town to record rain for the 24 hours ending this morning. In most cases blue sky, or blue sky and clouds, was reported this morning. The winds throughout New Zealand still tend to be westerly.
