THE QUEEN MARY

DOCKED AT SOUTHAMPTON VITAL PARTS UNDAMAGED (British Official Wireless) (Received 30th March, 10.50 a.m.) RUGBY, 28th March. The liner Queen Mary is now at rest on the cradle in the graving dock _ at Southampton. A preliminary examination has already confirmed that apart from scratched paint, neither the plates nor propellors suffered damage when, during the difficult manoeuvring of the huge vessel down the narrow channel from her fitting-out basin on the Clydeside, she grounded twice on mud banks. While tlie Queen Mary was in Southampton water yesterday, her captain, Sir Edgar Britten, exchanged courtesies with the liner Bremen and other ships ir. the Atlantic service.

Immense crowds gathered to watch the docking operations and a continuous stream of visitors anxious to get a sight of the new ship is expected at Southampton during next week. Rail and road excursions have been arranged from all over the country.
