UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING (From Our Own Correspondent) ... v■ y. Cl • from: *• Atctlie"iiimtial meeting of Uie United Football Club, held in Bowers’ Samplo rooms, Mr N. J. Dew presided. The annual report and the balance sheet, which showed a credit of .Cl 7s 7d. ■vere read and adopted. The report was as follows: — “The past season was a lean one in so far as the senior team was concerned. Owing to the loss of the majority of the players, who so successfully contested the 1934 season, wo were left with a seriously depleted team, which failed to win nnv of its matches. We wish to congratulate S. Emerre (sub-union) and C. Kinzrtt (sub-union and main, union) upon gaining representative honours. The junior team kept together well during the season and finished third in the competition, there being many promising players. We feel sure that the same good fellowship will exist among members as has prevailed in the past. The erection of floodlights at Rugby Park, financed by tlie Hunt, and United Clubs, gave players every opportunity for practice, but unfortunately the majority of members failed to realise that good club football requires team practice. The thanks of the club are due to Mrs G. P Talbot for her services in connection with club socials, to Mr E. L. Glover for auditing the books, and to Dir F. J. Bowers for the use of his rooms for meetings and practices. The jersey fund has worked well, and is on a sound financial basis, showing a credit of £2 5s 3d.” The following now members were elected: Messrs A. Wrntt, L. Ewers. H. Jones, E. Mortison, L. Kinney. PLUNKET SOCIETY

PRESENTATION TO MRS C. C, KILGOUR

An enjoyable afternoon tea was held at the Tea Kiosk by the committee of the Motueka Plnnket Society, to farewell the treasurer, Mrs C. C. Kilgour, who is leaving the district to make her future home in Wellington. The room was artistically decorated with dahlias and nasturtiums, the latter being donated by Mrs Pearless, and a delicious afternoon tea was served.

During an interval Mrs C. Mac Kay, president of the branch, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mrs Kilgour, who had proved such an efficient treasurer during her six years of office and called ui)on Mrs Shaw-Thompson to make the presentation to the guest of the afternoon. Mrs Thompson, who, as president, was associated with Mrs Kilgour for five years, spoke of her appreciation of the treasurer’s services, and in humorous strain, ,told of one or two happenings, during their term of office together.

Mrs Kilgour, on rising to reply, was presented with a lovely bouquet of roses by Mrs Wallace and a bedroom clock from the committee. She said she had thoroughly enjoyed the work of th; .society, had been perfectly happy in her association with the members and was sorry to be leaving the many friends she had made in Motueka. She thanked them for the ..beautiful gift. The singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and three cheers brought a delightful afternoon to > a close.

It was announced that the stall, held, to raise funds for the branch, had brought in £8 5s 4d. The winners of the fowls and tea cosy respectively were Miss S. Stevens and Mrs If. Stevens. To all those, who had helped in any way to make the stall a success, the thanks of the committee were extended.
