“THE MUSIC GOES ’ROUND”

SENSATIONAL SONG SUCCESS IDEA BRINGS FORTUNE A now novelty song called “Ihe Music Goes ’Round and Around has a new tempo called “Swing Rytlim” and it is predicted that “The .Music Goes ’Round and Around” wil’ he a bigger success than the world craze hit of 1923, “Yes We Have No Bananas.” One prominent New York critic described the song as the “National ailment.” Jerome Kern —famous song writer—says that the strain which goes “Oh-ho-ho” is sheer inspiration. The publishers of a popular brand of record announce that 307,000 copies of the

record were sold in two weeks. The history of the tune, which was composed by two members of the band of the Onyx Night Club, New York, makes interesting reading. Mike Riley, trombonist, was putting his instrument through a particularly well'd contortion of sound when a pretty but dumb girl dancer halted and said to him, ‘How do you make music?’ with just the right note of naivete. It was a disturbing question, but Riley sought to answer it. “Why”—he stammered, illustrating, “I blow through here and the music goes ’round and around, whoa-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho, and it comes out here.” The girl giggled, and went on her way. Riley also giggled. Later

it occurred to him he had stumbled upon an idea. He related his experience to his pal, Eddie Farley, and they composed the song. This “idea” is bringing in a fortune to the two young composers, in royalties. They are already famous and the big picture producers are bidding for their services. Columbia Picture Corporation have secured the world rights for the song hit. It is to be the feature number in a new musical film called “The Music/Goes ’Round.”
