WORLD GOLD OUTPUT
RISE IN PRODUCTION RUSSIA’S LARUE SHARE NEY ZEALAND TOTAL HIGHER A rise of over 10 per cent, in world production of gold hist year is shown m figures compiled by Samuel Montagu and Company, foreign bankers, London. Of this increase about one Half was accounted for by Russia, but almost evei-y country participated in the expansion. According to the figzu*es New Zealand production totalled 162,000 fine ounces, against 160,000 fine ounces in 1934. The output of the British Empire is estimated at 17, L 15.000 fine ounces, compared with 16,289,000 fine ounces in 1934. The world total is given as 30,500,000 fine ounces, as against 27.620,000 fine ounces. World production last year, it is pointed out, was no less than 55 per cent, greater than in 1929. There was a. further fall from 59.0 to 56.1 in the British Empire percentage of the world total, although this fall is not so great as that between 1933 and 1934. The South African percentage also was lower at 3513, against 37.9. The largest actual inez'ease in productions is shown by Russia, which easily maintains second place after South Africa among the gold-producing countries. South African production was higher, alter two yeai's of declining output, and Australia maintained hei" 1934 total in spite of the strike in February and March. Since 1929, the total for New Zealand has risen from 123.000 fine ounces to 162,000 fine ounces.
