SATISFACTORY FROM FRENCH VIEWPOINT COURAGEOUS AND STATESMANLIKE SPEECH (Received 27th March 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, 26th March. “The first reactions, in Paris appear quite satisfactory from the French viewpoint,” said the spokesman of the Foreign Office after reading Mr Eden’s speech. He added that the speech was courageous and statesmanlike in the face of difficulty and English public opinion. WELL RECEIVED IN ITALY (Received 27th March, 1.10 p.m.) ROME, 20th MarclL Mr Eden’s declarations of Britain’s unbiased independence was particularly well received in official quarters, but it is noted he ignored the vital element of one of the Locarno members being unable to play a proper part in the conversations.
