“COURTESY IN PUBLIC HOSPITALS”

(To the Editor) Sir, —Your report of the resolution of the Cook Hospital Board on the above subject opens up a question worth the consideration of all hospital boards in New Zealand. It is surely quite illogical that men and women in private hospitals should ho addressed as Mr and Mrs, while in the public hospitals the women retain llie titles of Mrs and Miss, and the men are addressed by their surnames only. As was pointed out by the Cook Hospital Board member who introduced the matter, if, is quite wrong for mature men to he addressed in this way by girls young enough to be their daughters, ail’d a change in ibis would enhance the self-repect of both the speaker and the one spoken to.—l am, etc., “EX-PATIENT.” Nelson, 25th March.
