NELSON COMPETITORS

OFFER FROM SCOTTISH SOCIETY At a meeting of the executive of the Nelson Competitions’ Society (Inc.) a deputation from the Scottish Society was received. The deputation informed the society tliev had in the past held junior competitions of their own, which last year were not held owing to the Competitions’ Society starting. They had no wish to hold these competitions again provided the. Nelson Competitions Society could put on their syllabus items which had previously been covered by the Scottish Societv Competitions. Mi' Mackie, chairman of the deputation, said that his society were not only willing to provide four silver and one gold medal for the Highland dancing as last year, but also if the extra items were added they were prepared to give first and second prizes for each of these classes. Mr A. R. Kingsford. chairman of the Competitions’ Executive, thanked Mr Mackie on behalf of his executive for the Nelson Provincial Scottish Society’s very generous offer and later when the deputation had left it was carried unanimously that a special Scottish section should he added to the svllabus, aud it possible it be arranged that a special Scottish night concert be held. All tlie set pieces have now been received from the judges, and the syllabus is now in the hands'of the printers, and should he ready for distribution by the end of next week. The svllabus lias fifteen more classes than last year, and altogether should prove more attractive to entrants than did the first year’s syllabus.

All other details in regard to the fe tival are well in hand, and when;it realised that the svllabus will be issue on approximately th.ei same, day of tl tear when the Competitions’jSociety wi formed last year, ft will be seen that tl teachers of the various arts and the pupils have much more chance of heir prepared for the festival, and that it possible even better talent and a greati variety of items will be put before tl Nelson public.
