HAIIIIOUII HOARD ASKS FOit STRIP OF RABBIT ISLAND

The Nelson Harbour Board forwarded a request to the monthly meeting of the Waimea County Council asking whether the Councii would give or sell a suitable strip of laud across Rabbit Island for the purpose of forming a road from Mapua to Tuhnnanui. Councillor L. M. Palmer expressed the opinion that tiie Council should not encourage tiie proposal. Councillor R. Teece said tiie sooner tiie proposed new road via Rabbit Island was squashed the better. Councillor L A. Higgins moved that t>, reply be sent stating that the Council had no power to grant the request as tiie island was vested in the Council only for afforestation purposes, and suggesting that if (lie hoard wished to go further in the matter it make application to the Land Department. The motion was seconded and carried.
