EXECUTIVE MEETING NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED BY CHIEF The executive meeting of the • Nelson Provincial Seottisli Society was hold in the Society’s rooms, Baird’s Buildings, Trafalgar street. The Chief, Mr Walter Black, presided and there were present : Past Chief Major Jamieson, Chieftains Brownlie and Logan, Councillors McChesnev, McConehie, Adair, and Ross, Mesdames Black. McChcsney and Prior. Treasurer, Mr E. B. Ross, and the secretary, Mr 0. .1. Mackie.
The Chief congratulated the executive on the very successful year which the Society had had, and expressed the hope that the present year would he still better. A hearty welcome was extended to Messrs McConelue, Adair, and Ross, who are iiew members of the executive, and Mr Logan was congratulated on his election to chieftainship. Mr McConehie replying on behalf of the new members, said that he had the interests of the Society very sincerely at heart, and would endeavour to furth»r them in every way in his power. A letter was read regarding a pro posed Nelson Debating Society and it was decided that the Society would co-operate with the organisers, and send representatives to any meeting that might he called on the subject. Chieftain Brownlie offered to donate a trophy for the annual juvenile competitions, which arc to take place in Councillor McConehie was voted chairman of the Programme Committee for the current year, Chieftain Henderson to he M.C., and Mrs Nan Dowling pianist. The first Tnglcside of the season was fixed to he held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday, 2.'!rd March, the arrangements to he left in the hands o’’ the Programme ConnnPp'e. A real gala opening is planned, and a Very large attendance is expected. The treasurer’s report was read after which a cup of tea was served by the Ladies’ Committee and the meeting closed at 10. JO p.m. with a vote of thanks to the chair.
