TAUBER GRANTED DIVORCE
NOW FREE TO MARRY ENOLISII FILM ACTRESS (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) VIENNA, 12th March. Richard Tauber, the. singer, has been granted a divorce from his wile, Carlotta. and is now free to marry Miss Diana Napier, a young English film actress to whom lie became engaged in April. Proceeding are continuing lor alleged blackmail against Carlotta. A cable message dater Vienn.a, 19th "February, stated that Richard 1 auher was present at the trial of his wife Cuilotta for blackmail and the repayment of £7OOO paid her since 1930. Accord ing to the Public Prosecutor’s indictment the couple were married in Vienna in 1925 and divorced in Berlin in 1928, when Timber stated that he had given ids wife £9OOO alimony, and furnished a flat, jewellery and a motor car. Carlotta allegedly in 1930 asked for f ril t her alimony."pointing out that the Beilin divorce was not legal m Austria, and threatening to publish her memoirs of Tauber’s private life. Tauber stated that he agreed to a. monthly allowance of £l2O until 1940 conditional on her agreement to a divorce in Austria on his request. Taubcv last year wishing to marry again asked Carlotta to agree to a divorce. She refused and allegedly made fmtlicr demands, re suiting in the present action. Carlo! la’s counsel, repudited the charge of blackmail ami affirmed that (lie 1930 alimony contract was drawn up and signed in'the presence of several lawyers.
